About My Placement

Gloucester College

My placement at Gloucester College starts at around 8:30 every morning Monday-Friday and ends around 4 in the afternoon depending on lesson end times or what is being done that day. I spend the day stationed in the Maths and English Staff Office when I am not sitting or assisting in a lesson.

I am stationed in the Cheltenham campus, but there are two other campus’ that are apart Gloucester College. In each campus there are different English and Maths teachers as the Maths and English GCSE and Functional Skills course are taught across all three. The head of Maths and English, Ruth, is most often stationed in the Gloucester campus and she oversees the teaching of English and Maths by all teachers.

Prior to the start of term at my placement, I was given some of the training  that is given to each teacher before they begin work at Gloucester College including safe guarding, interactive board lesson, data protection, teaching and learning (constructive criticism) and a general tour and teaching of the library.

Over the course of my placement so far I have already begun to learn and develop skills that would prove to be useful in the future, for example as part of my university work and giving presentations. If I choose to continue down this career path and look into teaching, the skills I have learnt here would be valuable as I have learnt how to interact effectively with other teachers and students. For the remainder of my placement I hope to continue to develop what I have learnt further by working closely with teachers and learners alike and hopefully proceed to gain more experience in this workplace.
