Getting My Placement

While applying for my placement, I was looking at a variety of different schools around that I thought would be good for experience. I went through quite a few, emailing them, but got little to no responses from most of them. I continued to look around online at other schools and decided to look on the Gloucester College website to see if they had any work opportunities available within their English department. I saw on their website that they had no vacancies available at the time, but decided to email anyway just to see if they had any placement opportunities within the college.

When I emailed them, I received a reply a lot sooner than any of the other schools I had been looking at from their HR, asking me for more detail regarding the work I was looking for. After a few emails back and forth, I was directed to Ruth, head of English and Maths. Once again, I explained that I was looking for a work placement that covered the 2018/19 academic year within the English department. After a few emails, I was offered a place to work for a year.

I met with Ruth and two others working in the English department of the Cheltenham Campus of Gloscol during the summer in which I was able to ask any questions I had in regards to the placement and the college itself. I was able to receive a lot of important information as well as the opportunity to meet a few of the people I would be working with this year.

After that meeting, and the emailing between myself and Ruth, I had a placement secured and only had to do my DBS check and wait until I began the year.
